What is a Split Truck?

You might see one of our trucks collecting two different bins – eg. recycling and general waste, or recycling and glass – and wonder: “Is it all going in together?”

Don’t worry – it’s not!

These trucks are called split trucks, and they’re specially designed to keep different collection materials completely separate.

How Does It Work?

Inside the truck, there’s a divider that creates two separate compartments – one on the top and one on the bottom. The driver controls which compartment your bin is emptied into using a switch in the truck.

Here’s how it works:

  • The driver chooses where your bin’s contents go – either the top or bottom compartment.

  • A flap inside the truck opens and closes to make sure the right materials go into the right section.

  • This way, even though it may look like everything’s going in the same place, it’s actually being kept separate.

Why Use a Split Truck?

Using split trucks helps us:

  • Reduce the number of trucks on the road

  • Cut down emissions

  • Make collections more efficient

  • And most importantly – keep these material sorted properly

After the run, each compartment is emptied separately at the correct facility.

Thanks for helping us make waste collection smarter and more sustainable!
